Arizona Solar Center - Your Guide to Solar and Other Renewable Energy Sources in Arizona

The popular Living With the Sun - AZ Style 2012 Lectures highlight personal experiences, perspectives and information about living in the desert sustainably. The series continues with Consultant Dan Catlin sharing his experiences installing multiple solar electric systems on his home in Mesa, Arizona and taking other steps to be more energy efficient.

Dan has 30 years experience in the environmental field and has followed energy issues for most of those years. From 1980 to 1982 he did energy use and cost studies at the world's largest underground copper mine near Mammoth, Arizona operated by Magma Copper Company. He has watched the transition from use of fuel oil fired boilers to coal and nuclear fueled boilers and use of natural gas fired turbines to power electric generators. He is excited about the cost competitiveness and environmental benefits recently achieved by solar photovoltaic systems and the trends. Dan is a proponent of using solar energy in Arizona both at home and at work. After retiring from Arizona Department of Environmental Quality as an air quality specialist in 2007 he is using his experience at Fort McDowell's environmental department. In 2010, Dan and his wife, Carol, started Catlin Energy Consulting.

The 2012 Series put on by the Arizona Solar Center, Inc. an Arizona nonprofit collaborative (www.azsolarcenter.org); and the Arizona Solar Energy Association (State Chapter of ASES), under the auspices of the City of Scottsdale Green Building Program is free; requires no reservations; and occurs on the 3rd Thursday of each month, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the City of Scottsdale Granite Reef Center - just north of the intersection of McDowell Rd. and Granite Reef Rd. in south Scottsdale.
